About/Contact
Although I have always enjoyed art, I put my artistic ambitions on hold until after I retired from corporate life. My first foray into art was making abstract wood sculptures, which I still enjoy. I became interested in mixed media/assemblage art (using found and discarded materials) through a course offering at City College of San Francisco.
Seeing and handling old and discarded materials triggers memories from my childhood as well as adult life experiences. I try to capture these thoughts and emotions in my art. In particular I'm drawn to the curves, color variations, and texture of old furniture and wood. When working with these materials I often highlight the blemishes that occur with age, weathering, and use. To me this provides character and familiarity.
For my abstract sculptures I work with shapes and objects to evoke an image or thought. I strive for symmetry and balance and highlight the natural beauty of the wood or stone.
